The history of tea in Canada dates back farther than recorded history. Our own aboriginal people made tea from the native plants in their various regions. Teas from other parts of the world were imported with the introduction of the Hudson’s Bay Company. Since the first shipment in 1716, tea has continued to grow in popularity here in Canada, joining its ranking as the most consumed beverage in the world.
Descending from three generations of Sinclairs who worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company, it seemed the perfect name for my tea business. The first Sinclair came from Scotland in 1782 and married the granddaughter of a Swampy Cree chief, joining the traditions of both cultures. Providing wonderful tea for my customers is a way of carrying on these traditions, both of my family and my country.
The goal of Sinclair Cottage is to provide the quality and variety of teas that enhance the enjoyment of this wonderful tradition; offering teas from the best estates from around the world and unique blends found nowhere else.
